From the writing team that brought you The Expanse – It’s not a long read, and while it’s readable, I could critique the writing style as not having the appeal and edge that other authors might have been able to give to it – but I won’t. Not in a critical way, because overall, it was a fun read in the context of a forever war. The Captive’s War is the primary series of novels, and Livesuit is another aspect of humanity’s war with invasive aliens. They did the same thing with the Expanse Series, and I enjoyed those novellas too.

The trouble is, nature really IS “red in tooth and claw,” and predators have no fear of humans unless they learn it the hard way.

LL – I know the feeling as it seems our government is also happy to spend money overseas rather than here. (I am extremely cynical about government in general).
However Australian firefighters including some local volunteers routinely go to USA at their own expense to help in the major fires most summers which is our winter and the quiet season here. Local church also raises money for sister church in USA after disasters. As do some other groups.
The Russians sent aid to Maui after the fires and the USA wouldn’t accept the aid. To be fair, other countries have done things to help us. The recent announcement that we had no money to send to the destroyed counties in the US because we’d spent so much on illegal aliens almost sent the minutemen to their muskets.
It still should have sent the Minutemen anyway, the fuse is lit on timmy’s tampon infested cabal of harris/wolzs infected commie brethren and sycophants.
Israel sent search and rescue teams and body recovery teams to the Miami condo collapse. Which, of course, our governor was very thankful for.

The deer and elk populations are quite high where I live despite the presence of a lot of predators including wolves and long hunting seasons. I spoke to one of the owner of one of the larger cattle operations in the area about a week ago. He’s a good friend of mine and we talk about different things. He said that wolves haven’t accounted for one cow/bull. He said that the bigger problem was the lions but even they haven’t been a big problem. The bigger problem is hunters who cut the fences. He and his crew spend considerable time riding fencelines and repairing the damage caused by humans. This guy wouldn’t shine me.

Re the Skycrane, friend of mine went helos, flew SH-60s and ended up working for Evergreen. Got an email from him saying he was now qualified as a ‘back seat driver’ for the Skycrane. There actually is an aft facing pilot station for deploying the load, and it is a separate qualification…LOL

I only have enough toilet paper and paper towels for a fort if you have the mass (and joints!) of a preteen. Fortunately, I get to borrow two lil’ squid-spawn occasionally, when the parents can get away from the schoolhouse long enough to visit. Usually they tear apart the couch, requisition the dining room table and chairs, and raid the shelf of spare blankets to make a fort, and then beg Aunt Dorothy to crawl in and see the defenses, fallbacks, and where the traps would go, and where to set up the decoys, and the gun emplacements. (They make plans, sketch the layout, and consult their father for advice before final build.)
