Above Captioned: A person who receives divination through a finger.

Bullet Points:

** The Russians began mass deportations of migrants after the attack in Crocusa. They think that if there are no migrants in Russia, illegal aliens can’t attack Russians.

** The Side Hustle – I hate these cutesy terms that we as a society have embraced for genuinely awful things. Side Hustle? Try overworking yourself to make ends meet. Side Hustle? It’s called having multiple jobs to keep afloat.

** We cannot hire anyone who disagrees with us. No, we are ideologically pure. The elect shall not mingle with the damned.

** The gender pay gap is real. It’s gender that isn’t real.

** Archery – don’t just practice.

** Q – What have you wasted the most money on during your life?     A – Taxes.

** Six hundred cubic meters of reinforced concrete is needed as a base for every wind turbine. That concrete isn’t removed even if the turbine is.

** I earned $80K/year in the 1980s. I need to earn $250K/year to live at the same standard today.

** Elon Musk just offered to buy the Federal Bureau of Investigation for $52 billion. There is no word yet whether the Clintons have accepted his offer.

** If you were born deaf, what language would you talk to yourself in?

** California had a surplus in their treasury of $70 billion five years ago. Today, they’re upside down by $65 billion and plan to raise taxes (again) to cope with the overdraft. Yes, we had the plague between then and now, but the exodus of middle-class taxpayers and businesses continues. A hefty exit tax was proposed to milk the departed but didn’t make it into law. It’s difficult to put a bandage on the arterial bleed. Will income redistribution and “counting ballots” be sufficient to keep a lid on the boiling pot?  The goal was to shed the middle class, leaving the Worker’s Paradise with only the elite and mindless and willing drones, bolstered by illegal aliens who will vote democrat forever in gratitude. Some of us sit on the sidelines, eating popcorn and watching the show.

**New York City hopes that people still want to go there. When that ends, you’ll have to pay to leave (In much the same way California tried to do it).

** Heidi Heidel writes to Mike Rowe…

Mike – You have lost me as a fan unless you can open your eyes to what you have done and apologize loudly. If you truly want to build a stronger world through the trades, then uplift the trades without beating down anyone else.

Mike Rowe Responds: Hello Heidi,

Thanks for participating in what turned out to be a very lively conversation here on my humble Facebook page. I appreciate your comments and understand that you are disappointed by mine. Well, you are not alone. Over ten thousand people weighed in, and more than a few believe I was out of line for criticizing Harvard’s decision to encourage students to organize “affinity celebrations” according to race and ethnicity. Some of those people said my comments were “tone deaf” and lacked “empathy and sensitivity.” Others said I was disqualified from having an opinion because I’m not a minority and I didn’t go to Harvard. The most consistent criticism was that my views reeked of “white privilege.”

I appreciate the feedback but remain unpersuaded by these criticisms. The facts are undeniable—when you throw an affinity party called “The Black Celebration” or “The Arab Celebration,” you are clearly celebrating race and ethnicity above all else. (And no, Heidi, just because the website says, “Everyone is welcome,” doesn’t change the fact that these affinity parties are designed to attract people with similar backgrounds.)

The point of my post was not to suggest that Harvard students have no right to form groups based on race or ethnicity; it was to simply say that the most important kind of affinity among people has nothing to do with race or ethnicity. Real affinity comes when you encounter people from different backgrounds and get to know them. Real affinity happens through the exchange of ideas and beliefs and friendly debate. Alas, the affinity being celebrated at Harvard is based primarily on race and ethnicity. The Black Celebration, The Arab Celebration, The Jewish Celebration…these celebrations are by definition, fueled by an underlying assumption that people who look the same or come from the same place, all think the same way. And that, I believe, is the very definition of racist. At the very least, it seems an odd thing to prioritize, especially if you’re running the most esteemed university in the country, where the most important form of diversity should be the diversity of thought. Pity, there is no such celebration for that.

As for you, Heidi, and the handful of others who have threatened to stop being my fan if I don’t apologize for sharing a belief you find objectionable, I do hope you’ll reconsider. My intention was not to drive you away. But I’m not inclined to apologize for saying something I don’t regret saying. Where’s the integrity in that? And while we’re on the subject, what exactly led you to assume the threat of your imminent departure from this page would compel me to abandon my arguments and beliefs? Do you suppose I’m that hungry for your approval? By all means, Heidi, let yourself out if you can’t tolerate a difference of opinion. There are plenty of other public figures who see the world as you do and lots of other Facebook pages for which you might share a greater…affinity. But seriously, I hope you’ll feel free to return. Everyone is welcome here.

As for your second point, that’s a fair one. I didn’t have to promote my own foundation by comparing trade schools with the Ivy League. I only did so because I felt like it. Like you, Heidi, I saw something out in the world that I disagreed with and chose to exercise my freedom to speak about it. So, I did. Admittedly, I did so in part because I knew the juxtaposition would invite a robust conversation, and I hoped that conversation might encourage people to take advantage of my scholarship program. (It worked, by the way.) But regardless of my fondness for trade schools and my disdain for what’s happening in the Ivy League, I didn’t need to compare and contrast the two. But I did, and now, since the poop is out of the goose, I think I’ll double down. Believe it or not, Heidi, I’m not a foe of Harvard or of the Ivy League in general. I understand how vitally important our university system is to America, but I’m very worried that the people in charge of our most prestigious universities are screwing things up in a big way. In my opinion, places like Harvard should be celebrating merit, work ethic, and initiative above all else. This is precisely what we do at…

Wait for it…

  1. That diviner should move to Rhode Island – everybody’s always giving the finger away for free, around here.

    – Kle.

    1. I should have read more before posting.

My understanding has always been that a Hustle, side or otherwise, is a sketchy endeavor, not just a second job.

      Mike Rowe is awesome.

  2. (1) T-28
    (2) IDK. I thought it was a UE carrier with a 25mm, but no.
    (3) Douglas Skyray
    (4) North American Fury.

    1. Ah, Aussie 2 pounder attack carrier, on a modified Bren Gun Carrier chassis.
      Knew it looked familiar.

  3. Mike Rowe is a national treasure, because he simply and clearly speaks common sense and the truth. Some folk have a hard time with those things.

I got no idea what that first tank is, but I do know that I want one!

    1. You NEED a commuter tank. People would respect it more than the Orange Flash.

      1. Not long ago I saw a picture of a truck with a piece of railroad track as the front bumper, get some paint scrapings on that bumper and you’ll have respect and can drive closer to the speed limits!

        1. I had a steel I-beam bumper on an old truck once… a lady hit me in her Buick. Truck had paint transfers (low speed head on over ice). Buick totaled.

  4. Side Hustle- Add Moonlighting to the list of pejoratives by those who believe your life is theirs to control, even when 2-3 jobs are needed to overcome Government Takings hurdles in order to survive as our parents. Dad was an architect gong to Rutgers at night (7 years to get it done), took a drafting teaching job in Trenton on Saturday’s to augment because, as they said later (which we had no clue), “Your mother and I didn’t have two nickels to rub together and we had plans.” But they managed…thru work ethic and common sense. As for the Saturday teaching gig, no one thought anything of it because M-F was for his day job, Evenings and Saturday’s was his time and his to do as see he saw fit. Now you can’t get away from work (“Ding!” goes the phone).

$28K in the mid-70’s is now [at least] $159K (last I checked)…for LESS of a standard of living because the Idiots Running Things Into The Ground prefer it that way because it doesn’t affect them (California is a prime example of stupidity on steroids). My parents didn’t have “two nickels to rub together” when they got married at 22 but were able – over time – to purchase a house, 2 cars, go on a proper 2 week vacation each year, and we boys had plenty to eat and new clothes as needed. Today $100K can’t get you into a house, cars are so overpriced due to Government interference, add fuel, healthcare…everything…all due to The Meddlers….as they print money to send even more of We The People’s cashola to prop up Vlad The Thespian and his Uniparty Money Laundering Machine, aka. Lipstick on a pig. Anyone see a pattern here? Marble Mouth Grandma Yellen just said as much, “We’re doing great, trust me”. Yeah. No. You Bum.

Mike Rowe- Velvet Hammer SISU MAGA ™ response…keeping the Kings English in the trades. His background affords an educated measured response, and he did not disappoint. Heidi needs to take a hike and fix her own jaundiced eye before demanding someone else changes theirs to fit her tone deaf world view. Here’s a ProTip Ms. Heidi: Introspection is critical to not being a moron. (Altho some people can’t help themselves from constantly stepping in it, especially when social media “likes” is what gives you joy in life.)

    1. Speaking of the King’s English, it’s “more of Us The People” – objective case, object of the preposition.

      The Old Guy

      1. Good point…maybe Jules will weigh in, being our current Motherland resident at large.

      2. Every Englishman is a subject. Except King Charles III. Does that make him an object?

I’ll be here all week, folks. Try the veal and be sure to tip your waitress generously.

          1. When he’s on stage it’s a lot like Johnny Carson with the band in the background and somebody on the drums hitting rimshots.

  5. Identify the Tank:
    1. T-28
    2. Universal Carrier variant but not sure.

    Identify the Aircraft:
    3. Douglas F-6 Skyray
    4. North American FJ-4 Fury

  6. California. 2006-2007 did some contract work for ATK Re-manufactured engines. Established in Fullerton, CA circa 1939, they moved to Grand Prairie, TX during 2006. The then president, Peter Butterfield, told us they saved, after deducting all costs for moving, $800,000 the first year alone.

  7. “** I earned $80K/year in the 1980s. I need to earn $250K/year to live at the same standard today.”
This is an attempt at humor or a short, short story – right?

  8. Archery. Pretty darn good shot and a bit brave to shoot a wild pig with an arrow. Sometimes the pigs do take offense at getting shot and have been known to come over and remonstrate with the shooter.

Mike Rowe has done more for America than Biden and Obama by multiple orders of magnitude.

  9. Ah, the side hustle. ‘Hustle’ implies something hinky, not kosher, not upright, not legal. Pool hustling. Horse hustling. Three-Card-Monte and other street ‘hustles.’

Hmmm. Come to think of it, the only ones who seem to be really prospering in today’s economy are actual criminals and their various hustles, like ripping off drug dealers or pot shops (eh, the same thing for the most part,) doing prostitution (on-line or actually in person,) burglary, telemarketing scams and such.

Sad when only the illegal people (criminals and criminal aliens) are the only ones ‘making it.’

    1. >doing prostitution (on-line or actually in person,)

So I used to spend each Wednesday in a little windowless room with lousy furnishings, chief of which was a sort of bed. Strangers, mostly middle-aged or older men, would come in (one after another), take their clothes off and basically monologue about themselves. After maybe ten minutes of this mostly one-sided conversation, they’d lay down on the bed and I’d have to touch them in various places. Then they’d put their clothes back on, leave the room, and a few minutes later another one would come in, and I’d have to repeat the process. If I didn’t see enough men in one day then I’d be threatened. The men were charged something on the order of $300 to $400 per hour, but I got less than a fifth of that. And I was told that I was lucky to get that much.

One day I had an epiphany as to what was the closest analog to my job. Except that I also had paperwork. Lots of paperwork.

        1. Please! I’m not that kind of cardiologist.
… unless you slip me a hundred extra. One-fifty if you want Ivy-League Experience. The ILE is where I pretentiously pronounce centimeter as “SAHN-ti-meter” and fibrillation as “FY-bril-ation”. The ILE thing is a joke (so far as I know) but the pronunciations are A Real Thing. I wish I was making this up, but I’m not. I’m not sure if it’s a Harvard Med thing or a more generalized elite East Coast school thing. But it’s annoying and pretentious. I dunno where FYbrillation comes from, but the SAHNtimeter thing is a bad attempt at French. But instead of “met’rh” like one would do in French, they still say “mee-tur”.

  10. So southern Ontario (Morontario) has a quarter of Canada’s population. Essentially Greater Toronto.
Now I want to see an ethnic breakdown of that 25% of Canada. Because I’m pretty sure it’s highly Asian, both East and South.
I started going to Toronto fairly regularly a couple of years ago, and the first visit (after a hiatus of about 20 years prior) was a real shock. This Canada is nothing like the Canada I remember from the 70’s and 80’s. Demographically and otherwise. And I don’t think it’s been improved.

    1. It’s much the same in British Columbia. There is a big mall downtown, and the last time I was there, it was packed, but at least 90% of the people were East Asians.

  11. Re Commie…er…California, most of the ‘big 4’ insurance companies are leaving too! The idiocy of illegals driving, the lack of maintenance of powerline right of way, etc. are forcing the companies out because they can’t afford to pay out for every ‘disaster’ that hits, especially when it’s manmade. And the few that are left are charging out the ass for coverage! My oldest has to drive daily for her job, her car insurance through her company is $800/mo!!!

    1. Auto registration for pick-up trucks has become insane in the Golden State. One of my sons-in-law has a 2004 Dodge pick-up truck with over 250K miles on it and received an $800 bill for registration for one year. Five year registration in Arizona is $87. Guess where it’s registered now?
