Bullet Points:
** You’ve got to hand it to short people…because they can’t reach it themselves.
** On this week in history – 1847 – A Texas Ranger walked into Samuel Colt’s shop and said, “Make me a pistol, Sam.” The genesis of the Walker Colt. Samuel Colt accepted an order for 1,000 revolvers from Captain Samuel Walker of the Texas Rangers this week, 1847.
** (Bee) HOLLYWOOD, CA — Disney executives announced an upcoming installment in the popular Star Wars franchise that will feature a female Jedi who mysteriously turns to the Dark Side at the same time every month.
“We think female audiences will relate to a character who becomes moody and homicidal once a month,” the film’s director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy told reporters in a press conference this week. “I mean, our target demographic is women, right? So featuring an empowered, self-assured female Jedi who just goes on a Dark Side-y type rampage once a month for…reasons…will click with the millions of women who flock to see our films.”
Yesterday, I saw something on TV that the Bee piece is based on where an ample-bodied lesbian who works for Disney was explaining her view for the future of the franchise, where it would be an all-lesbian universe. MRSLL (who passionately despises all science fiction) asked me, “Are they kidding?” I replied that they didn’t seem to be.
** If Elon Musk buys Italy, would he be willing to restore the old Roman Empire? (I know that it’s a big ask)
** Why is there enough asphalt to make speed bumps but not enough to fill potholes?
** Characteristics of a good mafia boss.
** During the War of Northern Aggression/Civil War: “I wish all Yankees were in hell,” said a tired, lean member of the Stonewall Brigade. “I don’t,” said another, “because Old Jack would have us standing picket at the gate before night and in there before morning.”
** One of my favorite Africans – after BRM of course…
** Oh, look, another trans school shooter – this time in Iowa.

Identify the regiment they represent and the mountain escarpment behind them for extra points. Trick question: Identify their commanding officer…
IMHO, the best book on the subject.

Timestamp shows a tie.
Agreed.
Definitely a tie.
Identify the Movie/Feature Film:
move: Zulu Dawn
mountain escarpment : Isandlwana
Unit: 1st and 2nd /24th Regiment of Foot (2nd Warwickshire) less B company of the 2nd at Rorke’s Drift.
commander: Henry Pulleine
Major (brevet LTC) Pulliene commanded until the arrival of LTC Anthony Durnford R.E., who was senior to him. LTC Durnford commanded Column #2 in the invasion of Natal (Zululand).
It’s interesting to note that in January 1879, the British Army was aware, and the officers had read about a similar situation in 1876. The Battle of the Little Bighorn, known to the Lakota and other Plains Indians as the Battle of the Greasy Grass, a one-sided battle between the combined forces of the Lakota Sioux, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes and the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army. Custer divided his forces without knowing the disposition of the enemy. We can argue that the combined Indian force could have destroyed the entire Seventh. If Custer had kept his command intact (with the Gatling Guns he left behind) and if they fought as dragoons as trained, maybe not.
Anyway-
Around 10:30 am on the morning of 22 January, Durnford arrived from Rorke’s Drift with five troops of the Natal Native horse and a rocket battery. Durnford did not over-rule Pulleine’s dispositions. Among the causes of the disaster were the ill-defined relationship between Durnford and Pulleine, brought about by failures of Lord Chelmsford’s command and control, a lack of good intelligence on the size and location of Zulu forces which resulted in Chelmsford splitting his force and, most decidedly, Chelmsford’s decision not to fortify the camp (which was in direct violation of his own standing pre-campaign orders).
Even though Durnford moved forward, leaving Pulleine in command of the camp, the 2nd BTN 24th and associated African formations were all under his command during the relevant action on the 22nd until he was killed.
Durnford rode to the sound of the guns “and attack the Zulu wherever they appeared”. The actions of Durnford and his command effectively halted the left horn of the Zulu army until their cartridge boxes began to run dry. This was no small accomplishment considering the Left Horn included the inGobamakhosi regiment, The Benders of the Kings.
South Wales Borders, with a Royal Engineer, some Natal Native Contingent, and some commissary department men. 11 Victoria Crosses would come later.
Star Wars – isn’t the point to get fired as fast as possible so as to collect a giant severance and never have to pretend to work again? What else do you do once you DEI Peter principle yourself to being in charge?

That would certainly seem to be self-evident. The hubris of the woke never seems to disappoint or fail to entertain.
Seems to be a trend (eg. Haavaard’s he/she). Maybe the root cause is another woman president/CEO morphing the school towards touchy-feely crap like DEI (ie. DIE). Not casting aspersions towards real woman here, yet look at those three at “The Hearing” unable to say it straight, instead tap-dancing their answers to sound warm and fuzzy. MIT’s Kornbluth (only the second woman president in the schools history is another one potentially on the block, as she should be for being an academic moron ruining traditions.
EdB forwarded a photo for the blog that addresses your concerns (above). It will surface tomorrow.
I figured it was Zulu Dawn and Isandlwana. The rest I wasn’t sure of. I do seem to recall that Sir Harry Flashman fled that battle. Of course he fled to Rorke’s Drift.
I’m 5’6″ but I still find ways to reach things. I have been known to climb shelves in stores.
Fleeing to Rorke’s Drift…would not be fleeing far enough in my mind. If you were fleeing rather than standing there shoulder to shoulder in the long, thin, red line with 11,000 Zulus coming at you, many armed with rifles and muskets in addition to Asgais.
Afrikaans- Did not recognize Ms. Theron at first, maturing very nicely which is telling (a compliment, not drooling here…but not dead either). The longer hair suits.
Restroom Doors- What if…just spitballing here as I got the Bradley gab from my mothers side…you are more “chatty”? (Maybe my engineer-type too-detailed chat is in the genes so not my fault.) So…does that make me non-binary-wordy (NBW) thus legally confused when selecting which door to use? (Okay, man-card is about to go up in flames…but hey, big enough to say it out loud.)
Ms. Theron is easy on the eyes.
Should guys chat with other guys they don’t know in men’s rooms? There is a male etiquette thing at work when you’re there. I’ve been asked if the water is cold while standing at the urinal. It’s colder toward the bottom, but I never reply.
Women are chatty. I don’t know if they talk or sing in restroom stalls. Maybe women who visit this blog could enlighten those of us who stay in our lane and don’t venture into women’s restrooms.
I have gone to restrooms in Europe that are either gender/all gender. I recall once in Greece when standing at a long metal trough watering the anaconda when a pod of women passed behind me to powder their noses. I don’t think that they were meat gazing. I kept my eyes forward on the sports page (in Greek) in front of me. They were talking a lot to each other so there was a window into female restroom behavior.
No chatting at the urinal, wash sink or moving about only. Denmark had female attendants in public bathrooms, didn’t care as she apparently didn’t either. But decorum matters, especially in America where we are less loose about such things. That’s why this tranny thing in schools, switching bathrooms and locker rooms as males…in my era they’d be taken out behind the gym and talked to first, give them an opportunity to straighten out. If it happened again…well…no need to go on.
My favorite reply to “Man, that water sure is cold” is to say “Yeah. And it’s deep, too.”….

Well Paul M you might remember the men’s room at the old Vet Stadium in South Philly. If memory serves me correctly there were literally urinals’ 25 feet long. Every swinging dick and the occasional classless drunken Philly girl would relieve themselves like pigs to a trough. No dividers no handicapped stalls, “.no stalls at all” Damn I miss the old Vet Stadium. It was demoed in 2004 after the Birds lost the Super Bowl and I was in Hit, Iraq.
-Go Birds!!!
Hah! Memory Lane. But yeah, old urinals were troughs, was a little intimidated as a kid going to the ballpark but dad was former Marine so had no qualms telling me to step up to the plate, as it were.
We had that in the old dorm I lived in during my (very short) college career.
Also, the men’s shower room was just a big open space with floor drains, and like 20 shower heads sticking out of the walls.
Of course we also did “soap swims” when I was in the Scouts: everybody line up on the beach, on command run into the water, run out of the water, soap up, run in, run out.
Seems to me that being forced not to be self-conscious and embarrassed was a good thing. But then, my whole childhood is illegal now, and they’re working on my whole adulthood.

Just don’t do that now at the local lake, SWAT will turn up and you’ll have your own YouTube channel and Facebook/Instagram pages.
Yeah, it’s true. EPA will be the worst part.

Looks like Gaza is a blue state..
Israeli blue rather than Muslim green.
Agree with Klebert, and then there was the Navy career… Re why is there enough asphalt to make speed bumps but not enough to fill potholes? simple answer- it’s more IMPORTANT to repave the good roads than fix potholes… We’ve got one that you could literally drop an entire wheel in!!!
You make it sound so unique :)
Last time I drove through Michigan, moons ago, stopped into Novi to visit family. Dodge 2500 with the full vet box on the back dragging our 3 horse slant bumper pull. Roads were so horrible I swore they’d cause the hitch to rip right off.
It’s the real purpose for LL’s Raptor. They are about the only thing actually suited to travel R.I. roads…

I’m rather looking forward to EM buying Italy and restoring the Empire. Someone’s got to do it.
