Happy 248th Birthday, US Navy

Obviously (or maybe not so obvious), I wasn’t there at the Navy’s founding…that’s for my kids, who think I might have been.

I enjoyed my service in a time quite unlike the present one. People have asked if I would do it again. Again, then, but not today. The same is true for much of what I’ve done for a living. I’m still in the mix but in a far different way. To all fellow Navy veterans, I offer a hearty Happy Birthday, fair winds, and following seas!

    1. Sea Hurricane. They were adapted for use by the Royal Navy on their aircraft carriers.

        1. The US went with non-armored flight decks and it was a costly move.

          Lightened up the deck, but made it far more vulnerable to damage, both from accidents and by design.

          1. OTOH, it allowed our carriers to operate large numbers of aircraft, so that part was useful.

            Besides, and more importantly, the only serious naval air war in WW2 was the one against the IJN, and the Japanese dive bombers were not really much of a threat. It was their torpedo planes that were the real ship-killing instrument of their force, and armored flight decks did squat to protect against torpedoes.

    With 630+ terrorist scum now on our soil, and tens of millions infiltrator locusts coming across our southern border – all tidy and sparkling with cell phone in hand – 2024 (assuming there’s an election as this war is working to place us into a melee’ disaster…foot is already in that cesspool), those without Citizenship or ID will be added to the voter roles.

    I found your site via The Gun Blog Black List in 2019 while recovering from knee surgery. Now one of my favourite sites.

    You seem to have dropped off it in the last week or so. I had it set to notify when you and a few others posted then I realised nothing was showing from VM.

    1. Thanks, RCC. There have been daily blogs but they seem to be blocked at times. At other times there are dire warnings about malware here. Not everyone digs what we discuss openly. Thanks for visiting and checking in.

          1. Your blog is loading here on a Brave platform, but some of the pictures in your post list don’t load. The current one does and that is all I care for. You have had some problems lately and so we are at Bustednuckles, Mike_C’s second favorite place… have had a few, like entire posts that are scheduled to load at 4AM and don’t until I get up at 7AM and get a cup of joe and slam open the ‘puter barn door. No joy. Have also lost comments and regular commentators comment is in spam kind of thing.

  6. +1 on wishing the Navy a happy Birthday. I would do my service in the AF again but not in today’s AF.

    As far as all the equipment left probably most of it is a corroding pile of scrap by now. High tech equipment degrades pretty quickly without continual maintenance. Sure am glad the government has to pay for it and not the taxpayers…oh wait.

    Agree that we lost 9-11 badly (and a lot of personal freedom). It seems as if the Patriot Act has been turned into a weapon that has been used to control everyday Americans. We never even went after the Saudis that were funding everything.

    1. That was always the entire purpose of the Patriot Act.

      I still remember Bush II’s three speeches (although none of my pinkish friends believe me… even though it’s in the public record… Revolutionary Truth vs. Bourgeoise Truth)
      AGAINST the P.A. and DHS, saying every time that we already had enough laws and law enforcement agencies, and adding more would be a mistake. GWB isn’t the most Constitutionalist / Small Government / Conservative type in the world either, and he could see it should all be opposed, at least until it became inevitable.

    2. As to the equipment, it was a scam because the orders went out to defense contractors to replace the hardware lost in the war. I’m not sure which pocket they dipped that from but suspect that it was the “foreign operations contingency fund” that Barack established.

      I was in the investigation business when 911 happened. The Patriot Act wasn’t needed. FISA Courts weren’t needed. I know that you read me bashing the feds here, but they’re lazy and that was one reason they pushed it through. The other was the obvious power grab that once snatched would never be released.

      1. For a while I wondered if Congress passing the Patriot Act was willful ignorance or actual malice. I have since come to a conclusion.

        1. After 9/11 Congress would do anything President Bush asked for – and did. They’re lemmings. It was the same way with the authorization to go after Bin Laden and others (Wahhabists and otherwise). Those in the CIA were well aware that Congress would turn on them even though enhanced interrogation was authorized. That’s why they tapped my best friend (dying of terminal cancer) to set up the “Black Sites” and the Agency’s outpost at Camp X-Ray in Gitmo. Dead men tell no tales. He knew it, I knew it, they knew it.

          1. “Enhanced Interrogation: Inside the Minds and Motives of the Islamic Terrorists” was a very interesting read. It seems to my simple mind that if we just made all the “good treatment for prisoners” laws only applicable to American citizens it would get rid of the need for 90% plus of the black sites. Or maybe the average U.S. citizen just doesn’t have the stomach to even continence the idea that there is evil in the world and pixie dust ain’t always the answer.

    1. I had a very pretty girlfriend who I cared for, and if I had bagged what I was doing and had gone into the oil drilling business in the North Sea, I would have stayed. I had the connections to have gone into oil. Maybe I’d have ended up as a tool pusher or who knows where? But I made a decision and returned to the USA and a different career path.

      2. Visited Edinburgh a couple of times when I was stationed at Lakenheath, stayed over in the MOD housing in Glasgow but they are really not that far apart. Remarkable city. I liked Edinburgh a lot better than Glasgow, not only for the castle but the people were a hell of a lot friendlier than the residents of Glasgow were. Weird they are only what, 50-60 miles or so apart? Felt like a different country.

        1. I think it was back in 1978 that an Edinburgh paper wrote a story of a robber approaching an old couple sitting on a bench and demanding the wife’s purse. The old man said it was hidden under his wife’s skirt and that he would get it for the robber. Instead, he unfastened her artificial leg and whacked the robber with it. Said robber then passed away.

Hamas leaders like Ismail Haniyeh live there in 5 star luxury and protected by the Qatari royals and the US Air Force, MB is based there, Hezbollah and PLO have offices there and it’s where they bank their money. Good plan, Joe. A ship of fools is running the shitshow.

    1. I lived just down from the castle, about two blocks (much lower) to the west. And yes, you may bow.
