The US Department of Justice is suing Elon Musk’s SpaceX over allegations that it discriminated against asylees and refugees in hiring. In a lawsuit filed on Wednesday, the DOJ claims that, from at least September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX discouraged refugees and asylees from applying to the company “by wrongly stating that SpaceX can only hire U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents.”
The lawsuit states SpaceX “failed to fairly consider” and “refused to hire” the asylees and refugees who ended up applying anyway. It also alleges that SpaceX “wrongly claimed” that the US’s export control laws allowed it to only hire US citizens and lawful residents. Additionally, the DOJ claims SpaceX hired “only” US citizens and green card holders from September 2018 to September 2020.
It sounds to me like SpaceX had an appropriate policy for protecting its technology and secrets from possible foreign agents and spies. Something maybe the federal government and other defense firms could learn from.

As an aside: I’ve been on a few flights in and around the former USSR and since then former Soviet Republics and I have never seen a guy working as a flight attendant, or an ample-bodied or ugly woman working in that capacity. They are all attractive, in shape, and charming. I asked one on Tajik Air (State Unitary Aviation Enterprise or Тоҷикӣ Эйр) if you had to be a supermodel to get the job. She said, “It helps.” In the US it would be grounds for termination. No tranny flight attendants on Russian jets and I don’t think that they serve Bud Lite.

America today has been manufactured by the death of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987 (allows media corporations to take sides) and the Citizens United decision in 2010 (gives corporations, unions and other groups the freedom to do what they would like with their money in elections).

Once upon a time, Bill Gates was happily playing with a software company he(and others) built based on questionably acquired code. Then the feds started demanding protection money and he got involved in lobbying in a big way, which led to him getting more involved in the whole political mess. And now we see the end results.
If they hadn’t developed a Windows interface, DOS would have been finished. Given that I tend to be an Apple guy with Unix/Linux for networking and so forth, my bias is clear. Gates paid off and yes, he ran for cover to USGOV. Aside from DOS, Microsoft was an effective software company. Would a Linux version of DOS have taken hold? We can only speculate. Apple would have died if not for Sys 10 and the Unix kernel that came over from the Next platform.
Still, Windows is the Lingua Franca of the gen pop.
And, no offense, Apple is a cult.
I think you might want to get a Mac and try it out. It’s much superior in both hardware and software. Mac is Unix-based like Linux is. It just works like you expect it to, while Windoze does goofy stuff.
I’ve used Windoze and Unix/Linux since the 80’s. For Windoze, daily use from Windows 2.0 to Windows 10. For Unix/Linux, daily use from the Sun/Apollo/mainframe unix machines to Ubuntu and Macs today. Microsoft basically started with a hobbyist operating system (MS-DOS) and made no attempt to incorporate anything known about computer science at that point. From that basis, they morph that into creating Windows. The early versions of Windows ran on top of MS-DOS. They built their GUI operating system on a foundation of sand, and windows users paid the price for many years since then. Windows is a POS, and only the latest versions work halfway well.
Everybody is entitled to their opinions.

I use it, it works, and for most people, that’s good enough.
I ‘ve used TI-99s and written code for Commodore 64s along with a suite of DOS utilities that were superior to Norton’s.
My industrial programming tools are all Windows based.
And we don’t have a problem with that.
I have equipment running on Windows 2000 and XP with no issues.
When Compaq et al cloned PCs without the cost of IBM or Apple, that was it.
Ubuntu is too foreign for most users to learn.

In Accidental Empires it is written these boys – Gates and Jobs – went to the Xerox Lab and saw the internal office GUI. Asked about it and were given a copy. The Windows & Mac interface came from there…the Xerox lab boys didn’t care…at the time. MrsPaulM, in another life, knew all of the players of this emerging computer tech (seriously), and likely wrote the first mainframe to Mac interface as part of a contract. I say to her, So we could have had our own island?” (which in a way, we do, just not surrounded by water).

I was a mainframe programmer before retiring. Toward the end I was writing some Linux routines with the code showing on one screen while a list of Linux commands was on a second screen.
Apple did die when it went to Intel/Linux.
It’s now a company that uses other people’s hardware and software, and adds nothing but shininess, spin and cost.
It’s a marketing engine, nothing more.
I was an Apple person, back when they used different processors and software, had competitive pricing, and were maintainable / serviceable / moddable. No more for me, although I also have plenty of gripes with Windows machines – mostly the Planned Obsolescence of the constant “new improved OS upgrades”, not that Apple is any better there.
The consumer would be 100x better off if being a “UI designer” was a capital crime, and Windows was still XP.

I had a laptop I used on occasional trips – it got bricked by an MS upgrade. They should change the name to planned obsolescence in the name of accuracy.

Apple Sys 8 was very programable and Res Edit allowed you to manipulate the OS. Apple Sys 9 sucked IMHO.
Ed, I went round-and-round getting Win11 installed on brand-new hardware. It required a BIOS update because Win11 had changed somewhat since the hardware was manufactured, and it took a good week to figure it out. I find Win11 to be extremely intrusive, and it literally sends data back to the Mothership.
Win 7 is solid, stable, and does what I need. I will never “ugrade” it to a newer version.
There are some things I like about 10 over 7 and there is a patch called Open-Shell Menu that allows you to mimic 7’s menu and explorer interface in 10.
