Franklin
Between 1757 and 1775, Benjamin Franklin worked in London against the interests of the Penn Family (among other things) as an agent of Pennsylvania. When Franklin arrived back in America, he was nearly a broken man.
He was nearly 70 years old. He suffered from kidney and bladder stones which made every attempt to urinate a physical ordeal and gout which made walking all but impossible. His beloved son, William, who had been appointed governor of New Jersey by the British Crown had become a rabid Loyalist.
Undeterred, Franklin immediately plunged into the politics of liberation.
In January 1776 when it seemed that the most likely way for the Americans to succeed in winning their independence was to ally with the French Canadians. An American military expedition that had been sent to Quebec to free them from the British failed miserably.
The Americans were all but cut off with the British at their backs and hostile French Canadians and nearly 700 miles of howling wilderness between them and their fellow countrymen.
In the midst of a winter that is now considered part of the Little Ice Age, Franklin and three other emissaries set off by boat and on foot to try to arrange some sort of pact with the Canadians. They managed to get to Quebec but their mission almost immediately failed. Retreating back to New York City, Franklin nearly died – supposedly from his kidney problems. And, yet, he rallied, arriving just in time to be appointed one of the five American committeemen to write the Declaration of Independence and then to persuade the vaguely hostile Pennsylvania colonial government to officially join in the Revolution.
He recuperated throughout the summer of 1776 and on into the early autumn. But as fall wore on, it became clear to everyone that if the Revolution were to succeed, the 13 ex-Colonies were going to need outside help, outside money, and outside arms and ammunition.
The obvious place to seek them was England’s traditional enemy. And so Franklin, as the most famous and most honored-throughout-the-Atlantic-World American, was drafted to make the crossing to Europe. The American mission to France was beset by mistakes, blunders, feuds, and espionage but Franklin almost single-handedly brought France, French month, French troops, and the French Navy into the war on the side of the colonies.

It may be a good thing that it’s in Tucson. If it was here on my land in my part of Arizona I might have restored it and turned it into a local pub/watering hole.

Franklin- Too many today have little idea what it was like just living back then, let alone what it took to carve out and construct a Republic that was “by the people for the people”…it took fortitude and perseverance, which is seriously lacking in our modern ‘more easy’ modern era.
Reminds me of that scene in “Sam Adams” (Paul Giamatti)…him sitting all alone in a cold dark newly constructed White House. Yeah…that’s reality.

My guess is you’ve witnessed and/or been in similar situations over the decades. Me, I have little tolerance for snakes and idiots…I’m nice at first (my nature) but if pushed too far, the East Coast comes out. My tolerance for Bravo Sierra has worsened as I’ve gotten more seasoned.

Yup. As we see more behind us than in front we learn a few things, especially these days with the BS meter gain knob set at a high sensitivity level which directly correlates to the “tolerance of noise ratio” breaking through the squelch. Occasionally I skip listening to the “news” and shows for a week, then come back…same bunk and scripts, different day.
Damn good movie, I have it on disk and watch a few times a year. Big problem is hiring communist pussies out of harvard, yale, and all the other libtard big universities that cater to the “elite’s” prep schools. Nuke them all from orbit, the only way to be sure.
Unfortunately these “schools” won’t die off no matter what they do. I figured half of them would go under after witnessing the past three years of insanity. Boggles the mind. No money or precious metals are safe, whether in physical form or in vapor form.
Remember, FDR made private ownership of precious metals for monetary reasons illegal. Sure, a lot of people didn’t comply, but it was illegal, very illegal, very very illegal.
Physical storage of money? Did you know it’s illegal by Fed Law to store money in any form in a safety deposit box? And the IRS can and has determined that stock certificates can be considered ‘money.’
And we’ve seen recently where the IRS and other Feds have seized all assets stored in a safety deposit facility, whether a particular box was involved in illegal stuff or not.
What’s the limit that your banking establishment has set to report to the Feds on what you do?
Then there’s asset forfeiture, where LEOs seize everything when they pull someone over. Any currency? Seized. Any jewelry or expensive watches? Seized. Any electronics or guns? Seized. Good luck getting anything back, or if it does come back, in working order with all accessories still attached and in working order.
The Feds control the game. They are the house. And the House always wins. Always. Remember that, ALWAYS.
I don’t remember; I’m not quite that old (almost, but not quite) but I do remember my Dad telling me about when (about a month after passage of the Emergency Banking Act in March ’33) FDR ordered everyone to hand over all their gold, with some exceptions: dental laboratories, for one.
Gold as jewelry or art was okay, as money not so much. Still, even with all the horrors FDR’s administration and feds could bring, a good portion of monetary gold was hidden away.

Re the Budd, interesting concept and ‘could’ have worked… They are the same company that now makes Budd wheels for the 18 wheelers. The issues with the Amphibs are ‘familiar’ ships, priorities, and budgets are an area I unfortunately had some experience with, all of it negative. It was always a “What do you want me to kill to give you (x)?” And when you provided a cogent answer, you were promptly ignored or not invited back for another meeting… sigh…
