Prophetic Margin (fiddling)

Bullet Points:

** A Russian national has been indicted for using a freelance-employment platform to distribute malware to approximately 80,000 users. Prosecutors allege that Searzhudin Tamirlanovich Aktulaev created 255 fraudulent accounts to send messages with malicious attachments, enabling him and his co-conspirators to harvest stolen data for fraud and other criminal activity. He should do his time “at hard labor.” I don’t think that US prisons are much of a threat to the Russian criminal class.

** Debt Collection (h/t Claudio) – Norwegian authorities have seized a Russian-owned expedition ship in Svalbard (left) at the request of Ukraine’s Naftogaz Group as the company seeks to enforce a $4.22 billion arbitration award against Russia over assets expropriated following the annexation of Crimea. The Governor of Svalbard confirmed Wednesday that it had seized the Professor Molchanov, which is docked in Barentsburg, following an order from the Nord-Troms District Court. The court ruled on August 31 that Naftogaz could seize the vessel as part of its effort to recover compensation from Russia. The Governor of Svalbard, acting as the local enforcement authority, carried out the seizure on September 2. Russia doesn’t have very many friends in the world. Way to go Vlad!

** The Alberta Transition Council has officially released its comprehensive transition plan for an independent Alberta. https://albertatransitioncouncil.com/

** (ABC News) SAN FRANCISCO – Firefighters spent two hours freeing a man trapped inside a Recology garbage truck in the Tenderloin after he was dumpster diving and got scooped up with the trash. Yelling was heard as the load was being compacted, prompting the driver to stop. The man was hospitalized. VM comment – More than likely, the man was sleeping in the dumpster. I don’t know how many urban “homeless” (was bums) have been compacted over the years, but based on personal observations in the law enforcement game, the number may be substantially more than those killed by firearms. Do they continue to vote in California even after fatal compaction? When you consider various sleeping options in inclement weather, the trash dumpster offers a warm, inviting environment. That screw top of Ripple that they consumed before they started counting sheep makes sure that they don’t wake up when the dumpster is upended into the trash truck, with few exceptions (such as the one noted above)

** Democrat sign language interpreter…

** CNN’s own report Tuesday didn’t exactly fit the network’s usual framing of the Iran war: the 𝐔𝐒 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝟒𝟎 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟏𝟖 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐢𝐥 through the Strait of Hormuz in a single day, restoring roughly 90% of the volume that moved through the strait before the war started six months ago.

** Guarding the Bank, With RHT447. <<Caution, harsh language>>

** CDRSAL sees things going his way with directed energy weapons, but no deep dive into nuclear propulsion for surface ships? I’m not an expert, but as with CDRSAL, there are two things that will drive future weapons of all classes: Energy and computing power (see Energy). Burning Navy Distillate will only get you so far. It’s time to talk about microreactors powering the new Navy. The issue of deck space allocated to missile cells and advanced (possibly recoverable in some cases) UAVs is the other. If you don’t have the engineering plant taking up all the space (stacks and stuff), you can cram more launch cells into the platform.

** Do you need white noise to get to sleep? That’s the question of the day. Here’s a graphic to help you decide which noise sounds better to you. Can noise be racist?

** Boating with EdB. The fun never stops. EdB likes to make a dramatic entrance. Such a show-off.

Point/Counterpoint

President Trump derisively dismissed Iran’s retaliatory attacks as a “love tap.” He said, “We have technology that’s incredible. Nobody has technology as we have. So, we hit them hard last night, very hard. They gave a little love tap, but we hit them very hard. We took out all of the new equipment that they tried to build along the Strait of Hormuz, some defensive, some offensive.”

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Thursday that if Iran dares to attack Israel, that “would free Israel from any existing limitations on attacking Iran.” He said, “We will cripple all of Iran’s national military and civilian infrastructure — including energy infrastructure — and return Iran deep into the Stone Age and darkness.” In Iran’s case, returning to the Stone Age would be like setting the clock back 20 minutes.

That sounds like a double dog dare to the Mullahs and their mutts in the IRGC. It may be time to crater all the runways, shut off the lights, and finish things off for Iran.

Bogs

There are a number of valuable things that medieval people found in bogs. The first was bog iron. Bog iron is rusty-looking, porous iron ore that forms in bogs. Groundwater picks up dissolved elemental iron as it flows through underground rocks and soils. When this water surfaces in oxygen-poor, acidic bogs or swamps, it comes into contact with air. Oxygen and specialized iron-oxidizing bacteria cause dissolved iron to solidify and settle onto decaying plants. Unlike deep-earth mineral deposits, bog iron forms relatively quickly on a human timescale, sometimes replenishing itself within a few decades. Early people learned to use this iron to make weapons, armor, and tools. The leap from iron to steel followed.

Burning peat (YouTube) in areas where trees were scarce or had already been chopped down became the thing to do. In areas where older peat could be used, it is called an early form of coal. It is the organic precursor and the earliest developmental stage in coal formation. The recognized ranks of coal after peat, in order of increasing carbon and decreasing moisture, are lignite (brown coal), bituminous coal, and anthracite. In areas where the bog is newer, it is used in the form of sod for construction (see adobe)

Defending Dems & Chicoms

Fox didn’t just lose Maria Bartiromo; they chose the wrong side of the story. John Solomon notes that Maria Bartiromo was not “fired” and that she is actually under contract, meaning she will be paid until 2029.

The backstory is leaking: she wanted to cover President Trump’s declassified material on China’s interference in the 2020 election. A Fox Business executive texted producers that the story “could not go to air.” Sensitivity, they said — Dominion and Smartmatic lawsuits.

Declassified intel from the CIA, NSA, and FBI is not a conspiracy theory you bury because lawyers are still circling. Trump laid out China’s alleged acquisition of tens of millions of U.S. voter files and related activity in that July address. Maria wanted it on air. Fox said no. When the White House asked why the network was sitting on it, reports say she told them the truth and forwarded the internal guidance. That, according to multiple sources, is what ended 12½ years. Fox’s official line is a “business decision.” Of course it is.

Fox paid Dominion $787 million. Smartmatic is still out there. So the network that once sold itself as the alternative decided the safer play was to protect the lawsuit file rather than put declassified information in front of the American people.

Fox appears to be covering for the Chinese Communist Party’s alleged election work because a settlement check still stings. Maria didn’t fall in line. That’s the part that matters. Most of the staff did. She didn’t. She treated the story like news instead of a liability. For that, she gets the corporate thank-you note, and her name is stripped off the shows she built.

          1. I remember them all, especially when home from school sick on that rare occasion mom kept me home. How about Romper Room, Green Acres, Andy Griffith, etc. now what do kids have, Teletubbies.

          2. In the LA market, we also had Hobo Kelly – an attractive young lady with a fake Irish accent. This in the age of Bozo, before clowns were evil. This is also before Hobos were “homeless,” spread disease, took mind-altering drugs, and tried to kill old ladies who were going to the store to buy food.
            .
Today it would be viewed as culturally appropriating homeless bums, clowns, and the Irish.
            .
Hobo Kelly was the showbiz persona of Sally Baker, a pioneering television personality who hosted a popular live-action children’s show in the 1960s and early 1970s. Sally Baker created the vagabond hobo clown character and wrote, produced, and starred in the program. She is widely regarded as the first female hobo clown on television. The concept originated in Peoria, Illinois, around 1960–1961 before moving to San Bernardino, California. In 1965, the show moved to Los Angeles, airing on KTTV (Channel 11) and later on KCOP (Channel 13) until 1972. Baker wore oversized novelty sunglasses during every show, pretending they allowed her to “see” viewers at home. Parents sent in their children’s names so she could read them aloud and greet the kids personally

          1. Rollinsville, good country…insulated Carhartts while Boulderites were wearing shorts and t-shirts.

  2. Old Shakey. A buddy was a loadmaster on C-133’s. During the frequent groundings of those contraptions after various aircraft disappearances and crashes, would get reassigned to C-124’s until the 133’s were allowed to fly again. He does not remember the experience fondly. He said the brakes on the 124 had a tendency to screech quite loudly and the joke was the noise wasn’t the brakes, it was the crew screaming to be let out.
    .
C-133’s were not terribly successful during their relatively short tenure but were perhaps terrible (50 built, 9 went down and one burned up on the ground). He was supposed to be on the one that went down taking off from Goose Bay with all hands but had been pulled from the flight the day before. The pilot of that aircraft had a brother who was also a C-133 driver and was also at Goose that day and witnessed the crash. Think on that one think.

  3. Fiddling: Dad would yell over, “Quit your fiddling around and clean up the garage.”

Searzhudin Tamirlanovich Aktulaev: What else ya gonna do with a name like that, no wonder he hid behind his laptop…almost as complicated as inner-city yute names pulled out of a hat and pasted together, Sheniquazin or Tyquavious and his buddy DeShawn. Gotta give props for creativity.
    ***
We have – to our pleasant surprise – actual trash service a mile out at the main road…never once thought to sleep in the mondo Republic bin…then again, never drank cheap hooch either.
    ***
Again! ProTip, no boating in and around the General Public, it has consequences, especially if they have been imbibing the adult beverages all day in the hot sun. Last reel was pretty cool, looked like a drug runner to me (maybe watching too much Contraband at Key West)…altho Bernie would say ‘no one needs that much horsepower on a boat, it’s unfair to poor people.’
    ***
Fox…no surprise, especially when they called AZ that time, sat there wondering what the hay happened. To bad, but they are causing their own demise…dead to me…altho Tarlov was back on…so ‘double dead’. More galling is the amount of money the talking heads get to explain to us in ‘pete re-pete’ fashion throughout the day for what happened as if we’re all in 3rd Grade and can’t see for ourselves…altho Watters is good, Gutfeld even better.

        1. She is suing last I read…but will give it the weekend to flesh out. This sort of ‘thing’ is why thinking, aware people are fed up with every level of government and reporting; nothing can be trusted. We’ll see how much defending Fox does with their decision…maybe not say anything hoping people will move onto the next Chicken Little shiny news object du jour they want us to get our undies all in a knot over.

  4. Guarding the bank. Nope, nope, not me. Well….maybe the part about coming out of the restroom. Wearing a sidearm is such a pain. You have to bend over and pull your pants up after using the urinal. And yeah, my better half would have smoked his ass too. We both laughed. I am reminded of a joke.

One fine Sunday, Satan is bored, so he decides to pay a visit to a small town church. In a flash of fire and brimstone, he appears in front of the congregation. Pandemonium erupts as the good folks bolt for the door, a few even diving out the windows. All except for one wizened little old man sitting calmly in the front pew. Noticing this, Satan redoubles his efforts, but the little old man just sits and watches. In exasperation, Satan walks over to him, hands on hips, bends over and says, “Do you know who I am?”.
    —
    LOM: “Yeah, I know’
    —
Satan: “Aren’t you afraid of me?”.
    —
LOM: ‘Nah. I’ve been married to your sister for forty years”.

  5. Haven’t watched Fox or any other news including local since the Nigerian shit stain was reelected in 2012. I have other sources including this blog.
I never saw a tv until I was 5. I seem to remember the show was Howdy Dudy, Buffalo Bob, Clarabell and Princess Summer Fall Winter Spring.

  6. Point/Counterpoint-

“The rhetoric is understandable after months of tit-for-tat strikes, but it confuses military capability with political outcome. The United States and Israel can degrade Iranian launch sites, air defenses, and energy infrastructure. That is not the same as ending the conflict on favorable terms. A campaign aimed at ‘finishing’ Iran would still have to contend with three constraints: the Strait of Hormuz, residual missile and proxy capacity, and the absence of a viable postwar settlement. Inflicting darkness is tactically feasible. Managing oil markets, regional escalation, and whatever authority emerges afterward is the actual strategic problem.Deterrence works when the threatened cost is credible and limited enough to be carried out. Open-ended language about returning a country to the Stone Age tends to do the opposite: it raises the political price of restraint without solving the day-after problem.” I think I know what kind of “stone age” President Trump and his administration are talking about because I’ve seen it first hand. It’s been 5 months and we are systematically dismantling the regime to point where the IRGC and mullas are scattering like roaches to get out of Iran because they know its over.
