Sometimes people prefer the Hollywood versions of people and historical events, particularly if they are more politically correct (Black Wyatt Earp, Eskimo Doc Holliday, etc.), but there is still something to be said for originals.
Those of us who have lived through history and can recall real people and events know that it is messier than we’d like at times.

The upcoming fifth book, Interventions, takes key characters Hud and Wolf to Canada in search of Confederates fleeing justice and to Mexico, where the French Army has pushed the Mexican Republicans to the US Border. Hanging questions from the conclusion of Vengeance and Retribution are answered, but not at the very beginning. The difference between extradition and rendition as those two practices were understood in the Summer of 1865 was not all that different from how they are understood and practiced today in 2026. History is an interesing thing once you start to dig.

There is the common jackalope, which can be found stuffed and mounted at rest stops and tourist traps along Interstate highways in the West. There is the much rarer flying jackalope, hunted to near extinction. When I was a young man, I occasionally asked a young lady if she might want to take a drive at night and see if we couldn’t scare up a flying jackalope.
Flying Jackalope….much like asking a young lady if she would like to watch the night time submarine races along the seawall and ship channel in deep SE Texas..

Jon Hustead and Data centers in Ohio – The problem is deeper than CCP influencing our senate race here in Ohio. Outside the cities Ohio is a deeply conservative agrarian state. We have had so much solar pushed on us and now the data centers on top of it. Mike Dewine is not looked upon with favor from majority of Ohio Republican voters and Husted is dragging that anchor as well. Jon Husted entered politics directly upon his graduation from the University of Dayton. Never had a job – another career politician, another check against him. Husted backed a bill that bailed out 2 failing nuke power plants. That won passage because of bribes of politicians in both parties but primarily Repubs. The result was a major increase in our electric rates due to the bailout and now they fear data centers will result in another large rate increase. Dems are running Sherrod Brown against Husted because he is well known. He is not well liked but well recognized. People forget his party pushed this solar fiasco on us. It will most likely be a close race. I look for Husted to lose

Helipad; Hell, the better bird gets the worm. We had a Sikorsky flying water / retardant on our line yesterday. Wash Comiaidian border it’s guard Blackhawks. Either way things are getting “built back better” like slippery slow Joe was told to slogan for the demolition party take down in Barry’s 3rd term. Haven’t seen or heard of the vertols or Chinooks flying ( Columbia) but we have 2 of the cropdusters with pontoons scooping a nearby lake.

I actually slept through most of it (for good reason, probably one of the few times it flew a “rescue” mission) but didn’t consider it all that plush (I recall blue velour seats).
The only place I’ve been in that particular helicopter was at the Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, CA. No, not plush.

I read that there’s a move to rehear or free because his case never saw a grand jury. Were I only as wealthy as as Croesus, I’d purchase a run of several thousand of the entire series to be used in high school 11th Grade World History and/or 12th grade American History classes – as a means of introducing American teenagers (those who’ve learned to read under our educational system) to the War of Northern Aggression/The First American Civil War/the War Between the States/whatever and in/intro/seducing them to the Wonder that is America and how it developed amidst political pressures, internal and external.

The first time I read the sentence I thought you dad’s brother’s wife was named Grunion, they’d taken her fishing, and what an unusual name she had.
How’d I get to 77 yrs old and had never heard of that species of fish? This has set me to laughing like a fool!
Being from Southern California, going to the beach at midnight for grunion fishing was a thing. Of course, you had to wait for the grunion…and taking a young lady, an ice chest filled and towels to sit on while you waited in the dark was part of the fun of grunion hunting (though it was often a family event and sometimes a family resulted from the grunion runs…).
Go out to a prairie chicken booming ground after dark, pitch a tent, and wait inside until morning. Don’t let yourself get distracted if you plan on watching, through a narrow tent opening, while the birds do their thing.
Am I a daisy? Dunno. I’ve never been presented an opportunity to find out. Never went looking for one either. If an opportunity does arise, I like to think so. Actually, I think of myself more like Star Thistle. At least the honey bees like me.

He said that though Doc could sometimes seem mad, as in “have you gone mad?”, he was not often merry, and that “where most of the world was concerned, his heart was iron.” He also said that Holliday was chronically nervous and had once confessed that the nervousness only left him when he was working on teeth or when a fight was imminent.

LSP. Agree with you regarding Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday. Have seen many iterations of Doc in movies and on television over the years and, in my opinion, Kilmer’s portrayal was the best I have seen. Likewise, Kurt Russell’s portrayal of Wyatt Earp.
