   That didn’t age well. But it’s probably true. Can you imagine being Nick Reiner? Now I have no idea if NR was willfully evil, or if he was wired wrong, through no fault of his own, from the start, but any road, he clearly had a lot of problems, and it was undoubtedly made worse by his parents’ fame (and probably wealth, paradoxically). I have little doubt that Rob and Michelle genuinely wanted the best for their troubled child, but from the bits I couldn’t help learning recently (lieber Gott, but this is ALL over the news) I’m thinking that they made some major blunders [1].

   Exhibit A: Being Charlie. Making a thinly-veiled autobiographical movie about Nick’s addiction and related problems sounds like a bad idea to me. Supposedly this was to help Rob and Nick “bond”. Maybe so, but to my admittedly non-progressive, non-Hollywood-type world view, airing your dirty laundry so incredibly publicly like that is NOT a good thing [2]. You want father-and-son bonding? Go fishing together or something. Take up bicycling, or hiking, or collecting baseball cards, or gourmet cooking together. They should have done something(s) where Rob and Nick could be equals. Making a movie (FFS!) put Nick in a clearly subordinate position to his famous director father. Sheesh, it ain’t rocket surgery. (Yes, Rob grew up in the shadow of HIS father Carl Reiner, I get it. But just because Rob survived and succeeded didnt’ mean that Nick should have to suffer the same.)

   Exhibit B through freaking infinity: Dragging Nick around Hollywood? Was that (again) intended to help “bonding”? Wrong and dumb IMNSHO. Supposedly father and son had a very public blowout at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party right before the murders. Just imagine what it’d be like to be Nick at that party (and all the OTHER parties his WHOLE LIFE). You KNOW no one (or practically no one) was happy to see him for himself. His identity was that of “Rob Reiner’s troubled [or dirtbag, depending on your level of human kindness] son”. Even IF someone was genuinely glad to see him, genuinely interested in Nick for his own sake, how could Nick know that? He HAD to assume that anyone being nice to him was trying to get to or curry favor with his father. Making a movie about how messed up your kid is, then dragging him around to big social events is plain CRUEL. (It’s on the level of publishing a photo of your adult son proving he has a 2-inch erect penis.) Now Rob and Michelle probably didn’t think (or even realize the possibility) of that, but it doesn’t make what I just said not true. At least to normal people and not Hollywood types.

   [1] Blunders: The fact that I think Rob and Michelle Reiner made bad mistakes doesn’t mean that I revel in their gruesome deaths, nor that they somehow “deserved it”. I’m an asshole, but not THAT kind of asshole. (That kind of assholery is for smug Progressives.)
   [2] Dirty Laundry: I don’t understand the need to air dirty laundry. It’s more than simple attention whoring, but I couldn’t tell you the whole of it. I’m sure part of this is the “we have nothing to be ashamed of” ideology. Maybe it’s not Nick’s fault (nor R&M’s) and he was just wired wrong, but the whole “this is the Age of Aquarius, do as thou wilt; let it all hang out; reject conventional morality; there is no objective right and wrong, only social norms; etc etc etc” is utter bullshit. “We didn’t do anything behind closed doors!” is bullshit. There is a REASON doors exist: Most of the world doesn’t WANT to know about your twisted problems. We just want you to act decently and lawfully in public. If you secretly enjoy covering yourself in mustard and shoving a kielbasa up your own keister, or if you have the habit of slathering peanut butter on your genitals and having your dog lick it off, DO IT IN PRIVATE. We don’t want to know. FFS.

   But this is not surprising, I guess. The kind of minds that came up with Freudian psychoanalysis is exactly the kind that would wallow in this sort of mess. Look, we ALL have some trauma from childhood. Most of us learn either to process it and transmute the pain, or we scab it over. Either road, we move the hell on with life. But not the Upper West Side kind that goes to see the pshrink thrice weekly to rehash their potty training trauma for 50 minutes. Not only is it ridiculously narcissistic, it’s the psychic equivalent of picking at a wound with dirty fingers. Not only does the damn thing never heal, but you’ve contaminated it, ensuring it will NEVER heal.

   Finally, to be clear: No, Rob and Michelle Reiner did not deserve this. But Nick didn’t deserve what happened to him either, even if it was done with good intentions. (This doesn’t excuse his crime, however. But it must have sucked to grow up as he did.) And finally finally, I have to wonder if Rob and Michelle derived some secondary gain from making Nick’s problems so public, and by continually exposing him to the public by dragging him around to Hollywood parties. “Oh, such good people, to never give up on their son!” and “Aren’t they brave, patient, and understanding!” And so forth. If my secondary gain theory is correct, I doubt they did it consciously (though you never know, especially with Hollywood types), but conscious or not, it was damaging.

      I’m not asking if you speak from experience. I can however confirm that it’s a nontrivial task to “disarticulate the skull from the spinal column”. One line of instruction in the Gross Anatomy lesson plan, but a LOT of work. The next step was even worse (to me at least): “Using the bone saw, divide the cranium through the sagittal midline”. Yes, it said “cranium” as if it was a clean skull, but this was the pickled head of a human being — which still looked like a human being. Sawing the face in half was unpleasant. We had a team of six in Gross. No one wanted to do it, so I ended up doing it. But I made each of the other five on my team take a pull on the saw. “I’m not going to Hell for this alone. I’ll do the work, but you all have to share the moral responsibility.” [BTW, I was the slow child in Gross compared to the rest of the team.]

         No, of course the Reiner’s did not deserve their demise in this fashion, their son had lifelong problems he was never able to overcome and this is how it ultimately manifested. The Hollywood ‘ethos’ is bizarro-world that never approaches these sorts of troubles like normal people (as you indicate), they wallow in them as if this or that problem was the first ever and the required treatment(s) need to be some weird novel thing, like gongs or smudging…or worse…decades of so-called therapy…instead of tough love and common sense. Saw an interview a few years back…by Tucker no less, who was genuinely good at these one on ones (now, he seems off-kilter, maybe picking at his own wounds), he was speaking with Amanda Milius, daughter of Red Dawn director fame John Milius. She spoke of the Hollywood mentality and what it was like growing up there…basically said it is truly abnormal, especially for someone who would go to the gun range with her father. Said that no one does things normally, and everything is about appearances and self promotion (to seriously paraphrase and hour interview). This mentality breeds results like we’ve seen over the years (I think the OJ debacle opened it up for people out here in the hinterland)…and now this ugly with the Reiner’s.

         There is little surprise that NR’s bad behavior escalated, he was coddled instead of spanked. Now look, he offs his parents in an obvious uncontrolled emotionally-driven rage…after a recent party he attended with his parents, and what ‘A-List’ party goers said “he made them all feel really uncomfortable”. As for Reiner, he was a vile TDS spouter…someone located about 50 of his “Russia Collusion” posts…ugly stuff. But when they are now the victim of something horrific, their side (and some of ours) demand sympathy and grace. Erika Kirk many of us are not…and PDJT is male and says it like it is, mixing both sides of reality into one statement. Reiner attacked Trump from day one, never apologized when the RC was deemed a hoax, but instead doubled down….because he (now) hated someone who, in his mind, went off the Hollywood bubble reservation. Same with a host of others who consider themselves “special”. Minimally, Reiner has met his maker and now knows the truth of things about his behavior. As for The Magical O’s spouting off…they are cut from the same cloth, no surprise with ‘her’ statement. Some people need to quit talking and live quietly…but the Left can’t help themselves, seems most actors have little self control once gaining ‘stardom’. My guess is they have always been precocious children and are simply now ‘taller’.

   2. Before I moved to the White Wolf Mine in Arizona, I lived in an upscale neighborhood in California. My children went to school with some of the Hollywood children. My youngest daughter was hired at one point by the Brittany Spears “gang”. And without going into specifics, I can’t help but pity the children of celebrities. Said daughter quit and said, “I don’t want to have anything to do with those freaks again.” And daughter had been to Elton John’s after Oscar party, and mingled with the great and near great. I find it interesting – and nothing against woman in these positions that are historically male – there seems to be an obvious trend of woman running things, like a lot of them…police chiefs, DA’s, and mayors. Very few seem good at what they do (some are, of course, but those are rare). To do those jobs well one must have a certain ‘sensibility’, which – as Peterson noted when attempting to settle down his British “journalist” argumentor (which he did, in spades). He correctly stated that success in these pinnacle positions has more to do with DNA and personality than “glass ceiling breaking”, [generally] men and woman are designed differently for different roles, harder shell vs. emoting. Certainly there are woman who can handle such difficult roles and are qualified, but one must absolutely have a certain level of ‘gumption’ (to be polite) to be effective. Sheridan’s ‘Lioness’ was a prime example of the natural ‘difficulties’ of females in rough jobs, both the protagonist and Ms. Kidman as some sort of Director, seemed like she was trying to be the absolute badass…fell overdone, like she was truing to be ‘the male’, wouldn’t know having not dealt with that type in my career (a few came close but didn’t try to ‘be male’).
      Hope Metreweli succeeds, time will tell.

Now I am ‘more seasoned’ this has been an acquired thing.        One of the sisters-in-law is unhappy that the funeral is turning into more of a family reunion. I reminded her that MOST funerals are family reunions. 13. In reference to the Reiner murders, we had a local schizophrenic that cut off his mother’s head, and put it in the microwave. He’s in the Texas prison system, comes up for parole every now and then, and is giving a glowing review by those that always state how well he functions in society, while on his medications. He’s never let out. The reason he killed his mother was due to his feeling better, and stopping his medications. Putting him to sleep would have been the best solution, instead of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep him in a cage.

16. Started reading my NRA America’s 1st Freedom and there was a picture painted by artist Don Troiani. Wouldn’t have known about him if not for your blog. I had great in-laws and a very good relationship, mainly due to some common interests. As soon as I watched the holster videos, I ordered two. When I’m in the truck I’m carrying a Glock 19 wedged between seat and console and it keeps slipping down to the floor. I also carry a Ruger LCP in my pocket. I don’t seem to be able to comfortably be able to wear a holster. I may switch the truck 19 to my 21.
    Being from Cleveland originally and living in an ethnic community of Poles, Irish, Italian, Slavs and others, we called it ball busting but nothing was sacred as far as insults went. As I grew into adulthood and returned home from the Marine Corps, an unwritten rule was not to fuck with a “made man”. That being said the meathead was the devil’s spawn.           1. Despite knowing “reporting” was always skewed to ‘make the story’ it took me a while to really solidify that everything in media is not anything close to the truth. One instance was after speaking with some reporter, me being me, I was specific. After reading the article in the paper nothing I said resembled reality. Same here with anything PDJT and his A-Team, nothing is as they present. Heck, one presser, either Trump’s or Ms. Karoline’s, showcases these so-called reporters playing gotcha or arguing some Lefty point. Prime example was last nights ‘speech’, from brother (who is always spot on with his assessment):

    2. In 2008 a Moroccan man and his 17-year old wife immigrated to America. Not long after she filed a restraining order against him, claiming her husband was raping her. The husband did not deny their sexual relations were non-consensual, but said that in his religion, the wife was supposed to submit and do all that he desired of her. The New Jersey judge found that given his understanding of Islam (or shariah / Islamic Law), he did not intend to commit a crime, and was therefore innocent. The restraining order was denied.

    1. You’re right!. I have a small collection of the Punitive Expedition awards and medals. I have 2 of the Mexican Border Service Medal along with several state National Guard Border Service Medals like Missouri, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania….
       Kudos to Congressman Tim Moore of North Carolina for getting H.R. 3780 approved for the reintroduction of the medal.

             The only medals I have access to (if I go down to my brother’s house) are the ones from my father. Sigh, no medals from past relatives who served in the Spanish-American War or Civil War or other wars… It would be nice to see all of them, but knowing that those relatives served is really all that matters. (I’m not one to take photos on vacation for the same reason, my internal camera works very well…)
